It doesn't have the cap to sustain that tank forever, so long range *could* be viable if you are careful. Close range is more fun though
Personally I'd have a pop at it in a 400mm Taranis:
3xLight Electron IIs 1xSmall Nos
1xMWD 2xWeb
2xMAPC 1x400mm Rolled Tungsten
This setup has marginally more armour than a similar Claw (enough to offset 1 armour rep cycle). It also deals significantly more damage than the Claw (around 110 DPS vs 90 DPS). ACs hit a lot further out that Electrons, so you need to ensure you close quickly. Hence the double-web. Give it a try, you should have a reasonable stab at winning.
Edit: Dammit Juduzz beat me by two mins :/

The plate claw does 120ish DPS from what i've heard
Hmm, they certainly don't on my Claw. I'm using T2 150s with Spec 4 and a 3% damage implant. I'm pretty sure 120DPS is impossible on a Claw without a Gyro tbh, and you won't fit a Gyro with plate + rep. ----------------------------------------

came down to low structure on both sides if I recall...
That was before the plate changes though. I think that now plates give 50% more armour, there *may* be time for the extra damage of the blasters to win out. Of course, it will still be a bloody close fight. I think it all hinges on how quickly the Tara can close to 500m, and whether the Claw overuses it's rep. ----------------------------------------

It was a setup with a dmg mod + plate
I doubt there's room for a MWD then, in which case we're straying into Jaegerbomber territory. And while that is a very effective setup in the right circumstances, I'm sure we can all agree that it's not really the most flexible setup for general combat. It relys on your target being somewhat willing to engage, which is unfortunately rare for me these days ----------------------------------------
